Why summer makes us happy!

Probably everyone has already observed it on themselves - as soon as the sun comes out, the mind is also illuminated. The mood gets better and we feel freer. But where does that come from? Why does the weather have such a strong influence on the feeling of happiness? Why do we suddenly feel better, although in most cases not much has changed in private life?

Warmth makes you happy

In particular, science has investigated the factors of heat and light in relation to the personal feeling of happiness. Just a few minutes in the sun have a positive effect on our body. It doesn't matter where the heat comes from. However, the relationship of external and internal heat is clear. In the summer, of course, this feeling is observed more often. The sun has an effect on one's own well-being and on social interaction. Those who feel good inside are therefore more willing to help others.

The body in the summer

In particular, the insular cortex is responsible for this. This is the part of the brain that establishes the connection between cognitive and emotional elements. Heat and cold trigger something different there. In the sun, our emphatic abilities come into their own. But not only our mood gets better, but also our behavior towards other people. Cold - whether triggered by the season or a cold drink - has the opposite effect.

The warmth of summer leads to the expansion of blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. This improves the metabolism and also relieves tension better. The warmth of the sun's rays act much like a hot water bottle, relieving pain and relaxing the body.

Happy with light

Through sleep research, it has also become known that light also helps to create a positive mood. The pineal gland in the brain, which regulates happiness hormones and sleep patterns, is stimulated in particular by sunlight. So, the light in the summer leads to an increased discharge of Serotonin - the hormone of happiness . The long days lead to an increased supply of natural light.

In order to get enough light even in winter or autumn, it is recommended to go out as much as possible or use a daylight lamp.

However, the currently prevailing summer can be used to create a lot, to set new goals and to use the motivation of the body. Let's keep the feeling of summer in order to always be able to fall back on it.
